The LIGA MX players in the Mexican National Team

Around ten players of Mexico’s National Team plays in Liga MX, the top league of Mexico. Let’s have a look at some of those players:

Guillermo Ochoa

Guillermo Ochoa plays as a goalkeeper for Liga MX club America whom he captains and the Mexico national team. Ochoa made his senior-level professional debut for Club America in 2004 in a Mexican league match against Monterrey. He won his first league title in 2005 and was the club’s first-choice goalkeeper up until 2011, making over 200 appearances for America.

After some seasons in other leagues, he returned to Club America in 2019 on a three and a half year deal. It was reported that Ochoa will be the highest-paid Mexican player in the Liga MX.

Cesar Montes

Cesar Montes plays as a centre-back for Monterrey. Montes played his first match with Monterrey against Portuguese team Benfica on the inauguration of the Estadio BBVA Bancomer. Montes came in as a substitute for the second half, and at the 48th minute, he scored the first-ever goal in the Estadio BBVA Bancomer. Monterrey defeated Benfica 3–0.

Montes made his official debut for Monterrey on 29 July 2015, against Correcaminos UAT in an Apertura 2015 Copa MX group stage match, where Monterrey defeated Correcaminos 3–1. At the end of the 2016 Clausura, he was listed in the Bext XI. At the end of December 2019, he would win the 2019 Apertura finals against America.

Carlos Alberto Rodriguez 

Carlos Alberto Rodriguez plays as a midfielder for Cruz Azul

Rodríguez originally hailed from C.F. Monterrey’s youth academy. He made his professional debut with Monterrey on 28 September 2016, in a 2016–17 CONCACAF Champions League group stage match against Don Bosco, winning 3–0. Loaned out to Spanish third division team Toledo, he made 30 league appearances and scored three goals.

Returning to Monterrey for the 2018–19 season, he made his Liga MX debut on 20 October 2018, coming on as a substitute in a 2–1 victory over Toluca. He would score his first goal with Monterrey on 15 February 2019, in a 3–2 victory over Monarcas Morelia. He would prove to be a vital part of the club as they would win the 2019 CONCACAF Champions League Finals against town rivals Tigres UANL and be included in the competition’s Team of the Tournament. 

In this winter transfer window, he moved to Cruz Azul. He has made three appearances for the team till now. 

Jesus Gallardo

Jesus Gallardo plays for Monterrey as a left-back and winger.

On 29 May 2018, Gallardo joined Monterrey. He would make his debut with the team on 21 July 2018 as a starter against Pachuca, winning 1–0. On 29 September, he would score his first goal with Monterrey, scoring on the 74th minute in a 3–0 win over Tijuana.

As Monterrey won the 2019 CONCACAF Champions League Finals against crosstown rivals Tigres UANL, he was included in the Team of the Tournament.
